Ok... I've managed to solve my own problem, so for anyone who is interested,
read on...

Apparently, I was not assigning a creator ID to the databases I was
creating. Although this will not cause any problems on the Palm or in POSE
(the database will export without a problem) - nor will it prevent
HotSyncing or anyting else that I could find, for that matter - it will
prevent a database from being installed once it has been exported; both on
POSE and on the Palm. Once I assigned a creator ID to the database,
everything worked perfectly.
