You raise some interesting issues. You should probably verify this yourself,
but AFAIK ExgDBRead/Write does preserve unique IDs. These functions are used
for both copying and beaming. As Peter said, if you want to be sure, just
put your own ID field in each record. That's what we did for BeamBooks
(before the HotSync issues were fixed).
