To any emulator/debugger geeks,

More info on this problem with a debug session failing to start
and showing the message "This target is not registered" with OS3.1
and "Unknown error 0x%4x" (or similar) under OS 3.5 and 4.0.

This has been intermittent for me but has currently locked me out
of debugging so I'd appreciate any assistance anyone can offer.

1. I'm running CW7.1, Win2000, POSE 3.3

2. The sequences are:
- When it works (or used to):
    - hit f5 to debug,
    - downloading dialog appears and vanishes,
    - debug interface appears.
    - if the emulator isn't running a message appears saying so

- When it doesn't:
    - hit f5 to debug,
    - delay, but no dialog
    - error message appears.
    - no change occurs if the emulator isn't running.

Even when it fails the app *has* been downloaded to the emulator,
which is bizarre because the 'fail' sequence is the same if I close the
emulator down. The error dialog has a 'Metroworks CodeWarrior'
title, but is different depending on the ROM the emulator is running.

This error is intermittent in that I can sometimes debug after two or
three attempts. Prior to this message I had been unable to debug for
half an hour in spite of shutting down and restarting both CW/POSE
and Windows. I closed my internet connection and the HotSync
Manager and the debug succeeded. However following a restart the
debug succeeded with both an active internet connection and the
HotSync Manager running.

What I'd like to know, if possible:
- Let's assume that the 'not registered' is a clue. Does someone have
a statement of the registry settings required for a debugger session to
download an app and activate?

- I've seen other people report this. Did anyone find a fix or
workaround?

- Does anyone know how CodeWarrior detects the emulator? This
link seems to be failing as part of the problem.
