Aren't you surprised that there are so many people
with a "big ego"? For me it just a matter of prestige
(Is this what you mean by ego ? - Actually "ego" is
just "I" in Greek, while prestige is a French word
related probably to "precious").
I can't judge your software, but I often come across
a software where asking money ($15US or arround $30AU!)
is really silly if you want to keep your face. On the
contrary there is a number of first class free software!
