Didn't you buy it for the always on email feature?  Maybe that's why...

I just read the cnet review, over 200+ votes, more thumb-downs than ups!  The
most of the complains are:
1. Only 8M
2. No color
3. 160x160
4. Monthly fee of 20 and more for emails
5. Way too pricy for such a device w/o competetive features except for the
always on email.

It doesn't look good.  But,  to converge on the development topic: is there
anything special about the device that may require custom development?  I was
thinking about a tracing program but realized it does not have a builtin GPS
receiver like some new cell phones. Another thought is remote terminal program:
can I do telnet with the wireless network?
