John, if you do have the option of using a local area wireless network (i.e., you're guaranteed to always be within range of an access point), I'd definitely consider that as an option, for a number of reasons:
1. Crunching through a large database is much faster on a backend server than on a Palm 2. Getting a wireless TCP/IP connection to work on a Palm should really be not that hard. 3. No 'maintenance' (software or data updates) for the client (Palm) devices 4. Data is always up to date for all users since it's being maintained in a central place. If you want to go the 'decentralized' route and synch data to the Palm, maybe also consider using SQL-based databases running on the Palm; I only have theoretical "experience" with Oracle 9i Lite, but it might make life easier for you (simple to perform queries and synchronize data). I believe Sybase and IBM have similar offerings. Disclaimer: I work for Oracle. Hope this helps, Oliver __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
