  oh.. of course.. :)

  i have tested timers on pre 5.0 units, and, no problems :) *g*
  we were considering doing a little hack up for liberty (gameboy
  emulator) using timers and dyna-rec compilations :) hehe..
  [yes, we got bored again]

  i guess we could get away with just checking for pre 5.0 units
  is there any "secret" way of detecting the AMX kernel *g*
