Agreed, I did not intend to argue it's actually method for doing what it
does.

I was just answering your ? as to what one would use if for.

I use it for it's advertised purpose to 'lock/freeze' the display until I'm
done drawin then get a one-shot draw effect.  For that it works, and it
works as advertised.  It's simpler than me allocating an offscreen window,
drawing to it, etc, etc, allthough that's not really that hard and you have
to do it yourself anyway for pre 3.5 devices anyway.

So maybe it's a mute point.
