Dinesh, Even though the PalmOS is a multitasking OS part of the licensing agreement that Palm has with the licensor of the multitasking kernel limits them to I belive 4 threads and they are not allowed to provide APIs to application programmers to create them. I've heard rumors that in the future (OS6+) this limitation will be removed, for now one thread is all you get.
However, applications do receive certain events even if they are not active. For instance, if you wanted to create an alarm clock program you could set a timer and when that timer expires your app will get launched with a certain launch code. See page 261 of the Palm OS Companion.pdf for more information. Hope this helps.
