I have over 85,000 messages from Palm's forums in news format. I have
much less than that in mail format. Have you ever tried to request
85,000 messages from a mail server (even using a scripted language)?

This way was much easier for me.

However, since I started using Eudora again (which supports Unix mbox
format), I might just spend some time to see if I can convert to this
format from Outlook Express.

hmm.. tell me how using email doesn't let you do this? i have an
account specifically setup for mailing lists and it downloads and
filters into its own little folder on my harddrive. i dont even
wait for the thing to sync. it does it automatically (my machine is
always on) and, if i leave it for a day or two, it takes at max a
minute to sync the last few days..

now, if you leave your email on a server - thats another issue.

there is, of course, a better alternative - and, thats to use a
public archiving of the developer forums such as www.escribe.com

it is much better to have a local copy tho, i am proud to admit
i manually imported all my mbox emails into outlook express and
sorted the various forums (email from 1998 - now) before i officially
dropped my mail account at the university :)

if anyone is looking for mbx based archives - i might be able to
help :) there are utilities to convert from mbx --> others too. i
did check that before doing the migration (which, took a day)
