and how do you play your sounds? btw, if you really want to do this (actually the preferences are there to select one's own preferences), you should not only switch the sound on/off, but store the sound volume and switch it back (low/medium/high).
also, if you only switch around the preferences to enable sound, you dont really need that. you only need to set your own sound volume when you play your sounds. i dont really get the use of this.
