[1] Yes you can. The Exchange Manager could use differents libraries to 
send data. Currently you have the choice to use:
- IrDa  & BlueTooth: Direct communication between 2 devices (Palm, 
Printer, Phone, ...)

- Sms & Mail: Send data embedded into a message system to another device 
(Palm, Phone, ...)

- Local: Communication between applications on the same device

[2] & [3]: Yes. Simply copy paste the code of the datebook into your 
application. 

By doing this, your application is tied to the Palm Addess Book 
application. If Palm change the format of the database or someone use 
another AddressBook in his Palm, your application won't work anymore.

By Sending a vCal you get rid of the application and the database format.
