Hi Felix,

I think the second chance is by far the clever way to do it. As the sound is
sent to your app as a callback, you can check the noise level every time you
receive a chunk and save (or not) the chunk. More information on Chapter 45,
Palm OS5 Reference Guide.

Thanks,
Sebastian

  | Subject: Tungsten T: Access to microphone
  |
  |
  | I recently got a Tungsten T, and this lovely Device inspired
  | the following
  | idea:
  | I would like to create a surveillance application based on sound.
  | This means the application shall regularly access the built in
  | microphone,
  | check for noise, and in case of noise save records of some 20
  | seconds of it.
  |
  | I see 2 Options to achieve this:
  | My application could either use the built in "voice memo"
  | function (if one
  | can control it by the means of a specific launch code and
  | SysAppLaunch(...)). My application would process the voice
  | memos afterwards
  | (decide to delete or keep them)
  |
  | Or the application would have direct access to the microphone.
  |
  | Does anybody know which way could succeed?
  | Is there any documentation on the Palm site? (I found nothing...)
  |
  | Thank you in advance, Felix Luebeck
