As a follow-up--and as if on cue--it's now official that OS6 will be
supporting multithreading (this just in from David Fedor in the PalmSource
Developer Newsletter):

"In particular, Palm OS 6 has significant new capabilities arising from a
new memory architecture. This enables a protected memory system where
multiple processes running simultaneously have separate "dynamic" heaps and
which share public storage heaps. These are accessed with the existing Data
Mgr APIs as well as a new extended database API which is based on schema and
supports access rules for security and extensibility. The security and
stability benefits of this system, as well as the removed limitations, allow
a huge step forward for applications, background processing,
security-conscious solutions, and system services. Developer-accessible
multithreading will enable a new category of communications solutions which
we're very excited about."

They're still say "Fall" for the release of OS6.
