Any of the Sony Clie units.  Well, at least on the memory stick.  There was
an application back in the early days (pre-os 3.0) that was almost like a
serial FTP connection to upload/download files.  Can't remember the name or
the developer but it worked like you've outlined only it used the serial
port.
