I feel your pain. PalmOne has been extremely insensitive to us smaller
hardware developers over the years. They've seriously hurt my business by
not adequately supporting platforms readily adopted by the commercial and
industrial markets.

I don't think PalmOne has yet realized that there is commercial/industrial
market for their products or at least don't understand the slow adoption
rate these companies have. I hope they realize that it can take years for a
potential industrial customer to adopt hardware and software into a
manufacturing market. The inexpensive Palm units have a great appeal to
these types of customers.

My advice is to stick to creating hardware that works with the Symbol line
of devices. Try to design hardware that can interface multiple unit models
with little or no modification.

Good luck getting one.

ditto

I typically don't like to criticize anyone unless I have at least one idea
for a solution. PalmOne could pick 2 or 3 units that would be made
available to resellers even after they are discontinued to the general
public. They wouldn't have to maintain an inventory, just a min order
quantity. Say, 100 units minimum order for manufacturing. Handera was
willing to do this until their OS license expired. It was a good
arraignment.
Another idea would be to sell the license to manufacture a few of the
retired designs to a manufacturer that could build to order. This should
go for the peripheral case designs as well. What company in their right
mind destroys molds with over $100K invested in tooling?
