It appears that they are simply 'nfnt' (extended font definition) resources rearranged to suit ARM memory architecture, and that they are the form in which ARM-based Palm OS 5 devices represent the system-defined fonts. I have an application in which we'll need to make some modifications to the predefined fonts, and I've figured out how to to do this safely and responsibly (!), except for the fact that all the work is based on assumptions about this undocumented resource.
