Is there any official documentation, or guidelines for the use, of 'afnx' resources? The authors of palmfontconv (http://sourceforge.net/projects/palmfontconv/) appear to be quite familiar with it, but I don't see anything about it at palmsource.com or in the standard PalmOS reference documents.
No, there's no official developer documentation for this resource type, or for other ARM-native resources for Palm OS 5. Palm OS Cobalt uses the 68K form, which is documented in the Palm OS API Reference.
