I wrote a conduit myself just a little while ago; I used CDK 4.03 with Visual C++ 6.0, and the whole thing was pretty easy. As fas as I could tell, the only thing you're missing if you use 6.0 instead of .NET is the Conduit Wizard, but I personally didn't miss it. The Conduit and Sync Manager APIs are pretty straightforward; I wrote everything myself without using the Generic Conduit Framework and once I had the project settings straightened out (pointing VC++ at the proper CDK directories for headers and libraries), I had no problems.
