I have no idea how much of the NVFS stuff had anything to do with PalmOS (ie,
originating with PalmSource) and how much is proprietary extensions done solely
by palmOne. But it wouldn't be surprised at all if this was strictly changes
made by palmOne.
While I cannot go into details, support for using NAND flash as a device's storage heap (known as NVFS at palmOne) was implemented as a joint project of PalmSource and palmOne.
I'm planning on doing a talk on NVFS at PalmSource 2005; I'm still gathering all my information and seeing just what I can get cleared by legal, but I hope to have a lot of information about the initial implementation, the changes made for the Sprint Treo 650 update, and, if I can, future directions for this technology.
