I'll give out the application for free - but I want to support as large a user base as possible. I also somehow doubt that the population of OS4 users is that small. Some anecdotical evidence:
1) The only other Palm users I know personally (they both work in our company) both use Palm Zire 31 with OS 4.2 or something like that.
The Zire 31 uses Palm OS 5.2. The only Zire that shipped with Palm OS 4 was the orignal Zire (m150).
2) Another company that makes products in the same field as ours, Kaspersky Labs, has gone through the trouble to create and support *two* different versions of their PalmOS product - one for PalmOS 5.x and one for the lower versions (although I don't think that they support anything below 3.0). Their product is commercial (i.e., costs money).
The OS 4 version probably uses system trap patches to add their own notifications when DmCreateDatabase and DmDeleteDatabase are called. The notifications were added in Palm OS 5 because the old method of patching system calls wasn't supported anymore.
