Yes, in fact 3.5 added so many things that I always wondered why it was still a 3.x release instead becoming the first 4.x release. But I don't know any of the history of that. I will say supporting releases prior to 3.5 would IMHO rarely be justifiable, as there are just too many things you need to avoid or provide alternative methods to perform. See Appendix B (Compatibility Guide) in the API Reference for the SDK.
