Hello,
NVFS updates are in use and they helped a lot.
However, there is a huge amount of small old apps which can easily crash a
device simply because they were written in the pre-NVFS era and the
programmers did not know that one day their DBs and their records will no
longer be fixed etc.
We are dealing among other things with backup solutions and this is a
typical area where old background apps often cause a crash that the user
will attribute to the backup program. (But other apps are not imune either.)
Here is the idea:
App name: LockIt. Or RLock? (To associate with our company)
Displays multi-selection listbox offering all installed apps.
User can select an app and say "Lock". (Or "Unlock" if it is locked.)
In turn the app would be locked (i.e. all its records will be locked) and
the app in the list will be checked.
The lock state would be restored on reset.
Status bar would display DbCache space that was locked this way. Total space
available for locking would be limited.
LockIt could display basic memory information, mainly the DbCache
characteristics.
Maybe something from the DbCacheTool functionality. (I don't know much about
this app except having rough idea how it might work internally.)
Remark: This procedure really works, even if not for all NVFS-related
problems.
Any ideas about the usefulness of such application? Or some
tips/suggestions? E.g. it would be nice to be able to detect the list of
background apps automatically. (Probably impossible.)
Best regards,
Jan Slodicka
