This sounds more reliable than hardware specs that will provide the physical screen size, but probably not the actual display width (there is always a gap). If I can't find the info, I'll just measure the devices I can get my hands on and provide a list for known devices and let users fill-in the field themselves. I already publish a list of devices with their app-specific limits and I invite users to send me the data for unspecified devices, but I haven't received anything yet.
