David,

I know the engine in the SDIO scanner is built by Symbol, but don't know if it
is the same as used in the MC50. I've never used a MC50 since I am partial to
palm os devices (or at least my software is...).

I have a few concerns about using BT scanning in a production environment, but
since I haven't actually done it I may be just paranoid:

 1) If palm device auto-offs due to inactivity, you presumably can't just press
a scan button and have the device wake up, initiate the scan, and update the
application screen with the data.

 2) If the palm (or CHS?) auto-offs, does it need to re-pair before sending the
scan data? How much delay is incurred?

 3) What happens when you have up to 40 people using it in the same room? If
the pairing is lost on auto-off, might you re-pair to a different CHS/PDA combo
if multiple devices are waking up at the same time?

With all my current hardware configs, it is a simple one-handed operation. And
even if the device is "off", you can just hit the scan button and it will turn
back on, scan, do the data lookups, and refresh the display in sub-second
response time. All with one hand.
