you can use hotsync name, or perhaps the creation date of "Saved preferences" database. if user hotsyncs or backs up to card that should stay, and it should be somewhat unique for most users (it should be the time of the last hard reset that was not followed by a restore, which, for most is likely to be the time device was first turned on)
