Hmm, why reinvent the wheel? cfg-update is excellent. To make everybody 
happy: Why not add a "virtual/env-update" dep to paludis?

Then you're a Windows admin and don't need paludis anyway ;-). Seriously, go 
with a network fs then and install software there.
