I am an idiot. I had done this: export APPAREO_OPTIONS="--master-repository-name gentoo --extra-repository-dir /var/paludis/repositories/gentoo"
form a suggestion earlier in the thread. I should have put '/var/paludis/repository/gentoo' without the /db/. Now on to fixing my ebuild. Marc R.
