AFAIK early aircraft used steel wire for bracing, so grey or metalic
rather than black.
Black thread is more appropriate for tarred cord on ship rigging.
I have used invisible mending thread for bracing WW1 model aircraft.
Smokey-grey worked well for me.
This is a fine monofilament used for clothing repairs. Check your
local drapers for it.
Tying it off is tricky, it needs gluing to stay in place.

Later British fighter biplanes used Raf wires for main bracing. This
was a steel strip formed into an aerofoil profile and screw threaded
at each end.
