  OK, I claim Senior Moment! Maybe I'm showing my age but I consider a
cut lip "trivial" as opposed to the CSI example of one's innards
spewed across somebody else's shirt. Yeah, that was unrealistically
abstract violence, but TOS was the opposite abstract; point an objet
d' art "weapon" at someone, sound effect ensues, victim drops or
disappears tracelessly.

  OTOH at least one TOS ep showed any sort of "cell damage" as
lethal...
