Yes it does make sense and an excellent idea. When I came out from my night time slumber this morning, I was genuinely shocked at the size of the head! I'm going to need these straws.
Thanks again for the tip. :) Mandy ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, May 06, 2009 1:33 AM Subject: [Papermodels II 36336] Re: Upsizing models actually I meant one straw rolled, and then a second rolled tight that surrounds the first. it works like the old antennas on an AM/FM radio so you nest the two straws so that you can pull them longer to a "longer antenna" when you get the height that works so that the telescoped straw fits exacty between the two sides. I generaly fit the two straws into each other and place them wedged between the two sides of the model and then glue the respective ends to the sides of the model. when dry, I then use the telescoping part of the two straws to fine tune the two sides to just as I like them, bowing out the side or pulling them in as necessary. once I'm happy with the way the outside looks, I then put some glue on the two straws at the joint where they meet so they are locked in place. I hope that makes sense. --- On Tue, 5/5/09, Mandy F <[email protected]> wrote: From: Mandy F <[email protected]> Subject: [Papermodels II 36333] Re: Upsizing models To: [email protected] Date: Tuesday, May 5, 2009, 9:56 AM Thanks for the suggestion Jon. I've just done the head and top chest piece and was thinking about the legs. It's coming along really well. I'm really happy with it and discovering that bigger is not always better. Man handling the thing is going to get more and more difficult. :P Just a query on your suggestion, Jon. What exactly do you mean by nesting straws. Do you mean like a piece of paper that has been rolled up tight, then one end pulled out? I'll want to put something in the legs that will help keep them solid and was thinking of putting something similar to many rolled tubes in there to stop them from bending sideways. Anyway, here is a couple of "head shots". LOL My husband is the person inside the head - and he's 6' tall. Mandy PS I'm using 100gm paper. My printer at work won't take card. :( ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, May 05, 2009 10:09 PM Subject: [Papermodels II 36332] Re: Upsizing models use thick paper, and make lots of nesting paper straws. on the inside you attach the male of one straw to one side, the female to some place on the opposite inside wall, and then telescope the straws so that each side is properly supported, then a dot of glue to lock the straws in place. --- On Tue, 5/5/09, Mandy <[email protected]> wrote: From: Mandy <[email protected]> Subject: [Papermodels II 36331] Upsizing models To: [email protected] Date: Tuesday, May 5, 2009, 3:46 AM I am currently printing out the St Bernard from Canon at 4 x 4 pages to one A4 page. That's um... lots and lots of pages! :) I'm hoping that he stands as tall as a youngish puppy of the breed and will post pictures as I go. I'm planning on doing a bit of gluing tonight, seeing as I'm back at the theatre doing backstage in a couple of nights. I take my dares seriously. mwaa ha ha ha ha Mandy (Who should have left work about an hour ago, but is still reconciling...) --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Papermodels II" group.
