The way this thread is going, I am sure mine will not be the last word on this subject.
I do prefer this format to the usual forum, though there is one forum that is arranged logically--the German forum at http://www.kartonmodell-forum.de/forum/index.php When something is added to a thread it moves to the top of the list, allowing you to see at a glance what is new. Perhaps the reason for a lack of build progress threads on this list is the fact that one cannot keep adding to a thread, except by clicking on reply, which doesn't allow the addition of pictures.
