We'll never know the reality of their modular system. Design through implementation is far apart.

There is no way something like that could be taken out of mothballs after sitting unprotected in open fields for years - the Russian space program would have to build a fleet of those things. I'd be the first to admit, though, that it would be very cool if they did. Their system was far more modular than ours.
