Right up my alley Bob! I make so many mistakes I often find myself
having to poke a hole in the bottom of a model--sometimes big enough
to get a small dowel through in order for it to be stiff enough. A
small dowel with a nicely rounded end can work wonders.

Another thing to think on--with your good old #11 blade, cut a slit in
the bottom 1/2" long or so. It will let you poke through whatever you
need, and close up nicely when it is withdrawn. If you feel the need,
a spot of white glue, smoothed over with a finger, finishes the
healing process.
