I think you are right, though I would say "ought to" rather than
"might". The self-extraction code should be ignored by any RAR
extractor program. I fed the .exe file to 7Zip (on Windows admittedly)
because I prefer to avoid running downloaded .exe files unnecessarily.
It opened it up and extracted the PDF file with no problems.
