You just hit a libertarian nerve of mine. The 100 watt incandescent light bulb will be illegal to buy in the next couple of years. CFLs are inferior in every way I find important. In particular, they seem to fail at their stated purpose: The light they provide is poor, at best. Then there’s the disposal problem. You must virtually call the local hazmat-disposal team when one of those mercury-filled puppies breaks. Seriously. The instructions for some I got from Sam’s said to open the nearest window(s) and clear all living things from the premises for at least 15 minutes. Preferably 3 hours. That’s before you actually start cleaning up. In any event, I’m collecting a stash for the future, so let me know if you need any 100Ws. Maybe some 5-100-250 3-ways? Perhaps others have experienced the same reaction. About a supposedly power saving light bulb. I grew tired of the icky illumination by this particular bulb, climbed up, removed the ceiling light fixture glass bowl, and was hit with a peculiar smell similar to heated mercury once the bowl was pulled away from the fixture. I don’t know if this made in China bulb contains mercury or not; but it certainly gives off a throat tightening reaction when heated and close. Uh Oh, I just noticed: “ NOT FOR USE IN LUMINAIRES CONTROLLED BY A DIMMER”. Guess we had it powered up too high in order for us to see.
