I use cutting mats all the time--my biggest is 4 X 8 feet. They eventually curl because we are--wait for it--cutting on them! Each cut spreads that tiny portion of the mat a bit, With enough hundreds of cuts and their spreading the work surface grows slighty, while the bottom side doesn't. Hence the curving.
I have found no cure other than a new mat. Sorry 'bout that, chief. Wait until Joannes has stuff on sale 50% off.
