I need a better video card in my computer. I've done research, but
I'm completely confused and hoping someone can explain it to me.
All my computer specs tell me is that I have 1 AGP slot and 3 PCI
slots (all empty), and that I have 1 AGP 8x/4x 64mb card built in (or
whatever it's called). Can I install anything I want, or do I need to
know something specific for compatibility? My brain hurts, please
help!
PCI is what you want. AGP is obsolete and cards are hard to find for
it. Also AGP is slower and not as well supported as even the oldest PCI
cards.
As for brand, it depends on your use. If you are doing graphic design,
CG, or video making, get an ATI made card. If you game, get an Nvidia
based card (like evga).
When you install the new card be sure to disable the on board video in
the BIOS. That will eliminate conflicts and get you memory back that is
currently being used by the on board video.
