You then have to generate a cutting file so the machine knows which are 
cutting lines and which are folding lines.  Some of the software has auto 
trace functions, but they are not that reliable on more intricate models.  
The folds are shallow cuts in the paper.  Some machines have a nub you can 
buy extra to replace the blade so instead of a cut you get a depression in 
the paper for the folds.  That is how I score the fold lines manually.  I 
much prefer a shallow depression along the fold line rather than a shallow 
cut.  

I have seen no instances where you can just put a printed page in the 
cutting machine and it cuts and scores the model.  Just the electronic 
version of the model won't work either.  You must have a generated cutting 
file in the native format of the machine.
