To be honest, I always just use the same, thick paper, with no special finish 
or anything like that.

There are all kinds of surface finishes, you can choose paper that has a glossy 
surface so your papercraft will have a glossy finish, which works very good 
according to a lot of papercrafters.

I asked the printer and paper question on my DeviantArt page as well, and I got

I'm afraid I can't give you a definitive answer, but try out some different 
kinds of paper, and see which kind you like; I hope you'll find a good type 
that gives you some terriffic results, have fun!
