I totally understand.  I once earned my living as a shareware
author, too. :-)

Well, the input filter feature (pp -f) I'm hoping Jesse Schoch will
help me implement should make byte compiling trivial.

Filter::decrypt is interesting.  Maybe that will provide a good start
at a sample code-hiding plugin for "pp -f".  It should also fare better
than B::Bytecode for self-reading modules.
