I think you will find that any module installed manually with nmake will not be 
reported by ppm as installed. nmake does not update ppm info and that's not just for 
PAR modules.

When I search ppm, I get an even older version of PAR reported (0.63). It depends on 
the version of ActiveState you are running. In general, ppm only reports the latest 
version available in their repository, which is frequently not the latest of something 
on CPAN (especially with a fast evolving app like PAR).

If you want the latest and greatest of PAR, the only guaranteed place is from 
http://par.perl.org. Also a reminder, you don't need a C compiler to install or run 
PAR/pp. That's what the pre-compiled .par file is for.
