Here is my solution, posted a couple of messages back in this thread...

I discovered this site: http://www.bribes.org/perl/ppm/

I downloaded:
PAR.ppd
PAR-0.79-PPM58.tar.gz       
PAR-Dist.ppd
PAR-Dist-0.07-PPM58.tar.gz  

Then moved to the download directory and ran:
ppm install PAR-Dist.ppd
ppm install PAR.ppd

That's if you're running Perl 5.8... If you have v5.6, you'd download
the corresponding gzip files instead.
