`tar' doesn't handle gzipped archives, which is *annoying*.
But at least I can ls, rm, mv, wc, grep, find, ...
even if I use `ack' nowadays. :)
I think Strawberry comes with ptar which does handle tar.gz files

I just finished dl'ing and installing gnuwin32 and it looks good.
I will put it at the end of my path for now.
p.s. I see the option for -z in the tar help
