Yes, you can apply it to 4.0.1. Do the following:

> cd ParaViewSource/VTK
> git apply [path to path file]

If you're building using source tar balls and not git, you can do the following:

> cd ParaViewSource/VTK
> patch -p1 < [path to patch file]
