Dear Andrea, We are using ParaView for earth science indirectly (helping others). Which plugins or filters to use is dependent on the use-case and data type. We do have GDAL plugin for ParaView (require <2.0 of gdal though) and will require some updates. What kind of data / visualization you are interested in?
