After talking with ihrd++ on IRC, it sounds like the crashes are caused by
configuring with the --optimize flag. After adding that flag, I can
reproduce this on ubuntu intrepid amd64, but not gentoo amd64 for whatever
reason. I think the crash is highly compiler-specific.
@Reporter: Can you verify that your build was configured with the
--optimize flag?
