I'm still struggling with fitting my old custom code into the new howto
template, but I think I've found a small change that would make it a little
easier: By using $(modname) in place of "howto" in Makefile.swig.gen I
think we can rename entire modules just by changing the name in Makefile.am.
This should also be mentioned in README.hacking (I am willing to do an
editing pass on that after I have learned enough to be dangerous!)
