Apologies, what I sent last time was broken.
(Not quite sure how that happened, but my mistake anyway).
At the risk of causing more confusion, I've NOT changed
the sequence number of the patch.

I forgot to give a URI for my local copy (though I did set
one up). try
http://www.brenda-arkle.demon.co.uk/patches/coreutils/coreutils-5.97-i18n-2.patch.bz2
(there's nothing else of interest in the vicinity, I promise).
This already points to the current version.

Previous message follows (it still applies):

This is slightly modified from the previous version of the patch
(excitingly called coreutils-5.97-i18n-1.patch).

Since the original patch was not accepted, I'm not submitting this either.
It sounds as though "planned for 6.0" means that it will be implemented
quite differently. I'm happy to add a note to any existing thread for this
proposed patch, but I can't find it in the coreutils mailing-list archive.
Can Mr. Patrakov point me to it?

There is some uncertainty over 'original version' here. I simply copy over
the original 5.93 claim, as the modifications are to a file which is wholly
created by this patch, and there has been no change in it since 5.93.
However, for what it's worth, the version I actually built from is 5.97, and
the patch is the 5.97 version patch. Feel free to adjust the 'original
version' to 5.97, or indeed back-date the patch with its name to older
versions.

The original, unmodified header of coreutils-5.97-i18n-1.patch follows, just so you don't have
to look it up:
*** OLD PATCH HEADER START ***
Submitted by: Alexander E. Patrakov
Date: 2005-11-12
Initial Package Version: 5.93
Upstream Status: Not accepted, but planned for 6.0
Origin: RedHat CVS, see below how to regenerate
http://cvs.fedora.redhat.com/viewcvs/*checkout*/devel/coreutils/coreutils-i18n.patch?rev=1.14
Description: This patch fixes various problems with multibyte character support.LSB >= 2.0 tests for features added by this patch, but only Coreutils-5.2.1 plushttp://www.linuxfromscratch.org/~alexander/patches/coreutils-5.2.1-i18n_fixes-1.patch
actually pass the Li18nux2000-level1 testsuite.

To regenerate:
Get http://cvs.fedora.redhat.com/viewcvs/*checkout*/devel/coreutils/coreutils-i18n.patch?rev=1.14 Replace the coreutils-5.93/tests/sort/Makefile.in hunk with that from rev 1.13
Add this header.
*** OLD PATCH HEADER END ***

The critical changes are just adding in ${srcdir} before mb1.I and mb2.I
so they can be found when building out of the source tree.

The attached coreutils-i18n-1.patchpatch.bz2 may be more useful,
simply because it patches the patch file, and will probably work for
the patches for older versions of coreutils, though it has NOT been
tested with anything but 5.97.
