On behalf of the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania, I would like to wish all South Africans a prosperous new year. The year 2008, with its trials and tribulations, is now a memory. The New Year is pregnant with possibilities and opportunities
So far, National Election stands out as the most prominent event in the 2009 calendar. The PAC urges all responsible citizens who are eligible to vote, to register now. Lest we forget that lives were lost, limbs broken, families split, tears shed and dreams shattered for us to obtain a right to vote. Electing not to vote amounts to betraying martyrs of our long and painful struggle for democracy. In all sincerity, we appeal to all those who are exercising their right not to vote, to reconsider their stance. If they are angry with something, they can vent their anger through the vote. To the leaders, members and supporters of political parties, let’s be tolerant to one another. If we have to fight battles, let us fight bloodless, verbal combats. Shall we inscribe in our heads and hearts; the African sage’s words: ‘Ntwakgolo ke ya molomo ’. Jaw-jaw was better than war-war. We owe it to the collective memory of Robert Sobukwe, Chief Albert Luthuli, Steve Biko, Princess Magogo and other illustrious sons and daughters of Africa. Most importantly, we owe it to the generations that lie ahead. Congratulations to the metriculants who passed their exams. To those who did not do well, we encourage them to try again. This should not be the end of the road. Bravo to the Proteas, for being true ambassadors of the country. May 2009 bring you more glory. Soon our roads will be congested with traffic. Drive safely. Arrive alive. Wish you all the best in the New Year.
